  1.                  ABOUT THESE CLIP-ART SELECTIONS
  2.  
  3.     All of the accompanying files in this collection were
  4. captured using WordPerfect Corporation's "Grab" utility.  Many of
  5. the files were in formats which WordPerfect 5.0 could not utilize
  6. directly.  All of the files were created by others; all I have
  7. done here is "ported" them over to a format that WordPerfect 5.0
  8. can understand.  Some minor cropping and editing may be necessary
  9. with some of these images.  Although the capture process is
  10. simple, it is time-consuming.  If you're like me, you'd rather
  11. not stop right in the middle of your work to prepare a graphic
  12. for inclusion in your document.  The collections represent a
  13. broad range of graphics, so you should be able to find what you
  14. need.
  15.     In most cases, an intermediate graphics utility was used to
  16. read the initial formats onto the screen so that they could be
  17. "grabbed".  The utility used depended on the initial format of
  18. the graphic.  Initially, most were in the .pnt format; later,
  19. some were converted from the .mac format.  Since there is no de
  20. facto standard format for graphics on the PC, I encourage you to
  21. experiment with all that you can.  I believe you will be
  22. pleasantly surprised (as I was).  
  23.     For previous users of version 4.2 who have not yet upgraded,
  24. all that I can say is: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR !  For those of
  25. you already using version 5.0, you already know what a tremendous
  26. product it is.  The "grab" utility is a fine tool, and it's
  27. included in the cost of the program!  So far, I have only
  28. experienced compatibility problems with one graphics format, a
  29. very obscure, little-known desktop publishing program.  The grab
  30. utility will only work if the screen is in video mode (set by the
  31. software); this particular desktop publishing program apparently
  32. does some hostile things with the video interrupts.  All I could
  33. manage was a total lockup of the hardware.  Too bad, too, there's
  34. a lot of nice stuff in this format!
  35.     If I can find an intermediate utility to read this obscure
  36. format outside of its program, then "grab" will do its stuff.  In
  37. the meantime, we'll have to be content with the other 15 or 20
  38. graphics formats out there!
  39.     These clip-art images are placed in the public domain for
  40. the benefit of all WordPerfect 5.0 users.  No compensation is
  41. requested or expected.  Hopefully, my efforts will save others 
  42. some time.  Please feel free to add to these collections, for the
  43. benefit of others.
